Fund-raising is joint effort between HACC and the community
Aug. 20, 2008
HARRISBURG – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, launched its Major Gifts Campaign today at its new Midtown site at Third and Reily streets. HACC has been shaping the community for years, and this new effort focuses on getting the community involved in central Pennsylvania’s future.
The campaign’s goal is to raise money to support HACC’s program development at the Midtown site, including access and opportunity scholarships, a technology enhancement fund, and a workforce advancement fund to respond to employers’ needs in the labor force.
This is a continuation of a fund-raising effort that has already raised in excess of $2.2 million in donations. The goal of the Major Gifts Campaign is to raise $3.5 million. HACC has supported the Harrisburg area for more than 40 years. We work with the community to develop programs to meet its ever-changing needs,” said HACC President Edna Baehre, Ph.D.
“The addition of the Midtown site is a bigger example of HACC’s devotion to Harrisburg. Midtown needed redevelopment, and HACC has stepped up to rebuild the area,” she added.
The former Evangelical Press Building, where the launch was held, is now home to HACC’s trade and technology programs. Renovation is ongoing on the nearby Community Center for Technology and the Arts (CCTA) at Fourth and Reily streets, which will continue to host classes for HACC programs.
HACC is not only working with Powers & Associates to revitalize Midtown, but also to make an impact on the community and economy by providing top quality, higher learning opportunities through technology upgrades, new training programs and better facilities.
HACC currently provides workforce training and community education classes to more than 50,000 students. It is the second largest provider of nurses in Pennsylvania and the state’s primary provider of public safety training. Eighty percent of HACC alumni live and work within 25 miles of their respective campuses, creating a highly skilled workforce in the central Pennsylvania region.
