HARRISBURG - Bucks County resident Diana Contine infuses her original jewelry designs with crosscurrents of culture, old and new, to create unique and wearable art. Her work will be featured in July at Radius, HACC Gallery and Museum Shop, Third and North streets in Harrisburg.

An artist’s reception will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, July 20. Light refreshments will be provided.

Initially successful designing original clothing and home furnishings, Contine has turned her focus to jewelry design. An adventurous sense of color and an eye for combining unexpected textures hallmarks her Dakota Moon designs.

Contine draws from a wide history for motivation - the flourish of Art Nouveau, the earthiness of tribal beadwork, high-tech sculpted precious metals and recycled antique glamour - to form bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

"These pieces are more than wearable art, they are reflections of a mystical and romantic world," said Jessica Lantz, curator of arts and assistant manager. "Diana’s travels have given her a wide range of inspirations and we’re able to enjoy the journey."

Contine’s training in fine art design took her from her native St.Louis, Mo., to Eastern Michigan University and the American College of London where she earned a bachelor’s degree in design. She studied millinery at Moore College of Design in Philadelphia, then focused on jewelry design in California and then the south of France.

Contine is a juried member in jewelry and fiber with the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. She is also a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Goldsmiths and a certified instructor in the Precious Metal Clay Guild. She teaches jewelry design and techniques throughout New England and in her studio in Bucks County.
