HARRISBURG - The bottle has greatly evolved from a mere container for liquids. Radius, HACC Gallery and Museum Shop will bring new meaning to the word "bottles" in the shop’s next showcase that runs Sept. 1-Oct. 31.

"Artists now are creating this common form in extraordinary ways - in glass, wood, ceramic and even textiles," said Jessica Lantz, curator of arts and assistant manager of Radius, in The State Museum of Pennsylvania. "While some continue to craft functional bottles, many craftsmen are re-interpreting the form to be strictly sculptural."

The public is invited to see how clay bottles are made during a demonstration 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12. Ceramicist and Radius craftsman Nancy Pratt will throw clay bottles on a pottery wheel.

Artisans from around the state submitted their work for the showcase. Selected handcrafted bottles for the showcase are available for sale.

The Radius Showcase Series is displayed at Radius, on the ground floor of the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Third and North streets in Harrisburg.

Radius is a partnership of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, and the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission. For more information, call 787-5590 or go to the Radius Web site.
