Sessions offered January-April at the Harrisburg, Lancaster campuses
Jan. 8, 2009
Youngsters in grades 3-5 can explore science, engineering, culinary and architecture in a the second annual spring “Kids College Discovery Day Series” offered at the Lancaster and Harrisburg campuses of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
The spring series is an extension of the popular Kids’ College Summer Enrichment program. Each program runs from 9 a.m.-noon on a Saturday and includes instruction, materials, hands-on application, and – most importantly – a fun learning experience. The cost per session is $30 or $100 to register for all four sessions. The programs are offered through HACC’s Community Education Center.
Here’s the lineup:
January: Discover Sensory Science. Science can cover every letter of the alphabet. For example, the letter “A” stands for aerodynamics, the letter “B” stands for biology, “C” stands for chemistry and “P” stands for physics. Explore the systems of science from A to Z and discover the scientist inside each of us. Sessions are Jan. 24 in the Hall Technology Center of the Harrisburg Campus and Jan. 31 in the East Building of the Lancaster Campus.
February: Discover Engineering. Use your imagination to dream it, use the Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to design it, and use your hands to build it. Realize the Engineer inside of you. Sessions are Feb. 21 at the Harrisburg Campus and Feb. 28 at the Lancaster Campus.
March: Discover Culinary. E is for Etiquette, N is for nutrition, and C is for creative cooking. Find out what really happens in the kitchen as you prepare a culinary delight that will please any chef. Sessions are March 21 at the Harrisburg Campus and March 28 at the Lancaster Campus.
April: Discover Architecture. Skyscrapers can be amazing, bridges fascinating and tunnels aren’t always underground. Come and learn how buildings are built, as well as how structures stand. Be an Architect for the day. Sessions are April 18 at the Harrisburg Campus and April 25 at the Lancaster Campus. Easy registration is available online at http://vc.hacc.edu.
