Gettysburg, PA – The first major battle of the American Civil was fought near Manassas, Va., when two untrained and inexperienced armies collided on July 21, 1861.
Area residents are invited to join “Clash of Amateurs: The First Battle of Bull Run,” a daylong excursion to the battlefield offered Saturday, Nov. 7, by the Continuing Education Division of the Gettysburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. The bus leaves the campus at 731 Old Harrisburg Pike at 7:30 a.m. and returns at 6 p.m. The cost is $99.
The First Battle of Bull Run, when Union and Confederate troops clashed more than 148 years ago, was chaotic, confused, and remarkably hard-fought. It was a complex engagement with an amazing cast of participants, many of whom would go on to great fame in the coming years.
Modern-day tour participants will learn about the soldiers who fought in this war with a comprehensive tour of the battlefield and will gain insight into this often-misunderstood battle.
Deadline to register is Oct. 30. No refunds will be made after the deadline.
