LEBANON – Those looking for help in tough economic times can come to a Here to Help event 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at the Lebanon Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, 735 Cumberland St.
Here to Help is a combined event presented by HACC’s Lebanon Campus and the PA CareerLink of Lebanon County. Community support agencies – both state and local – education providers and employers are attending.
“This is a real tough time for a lot of people,” said Kay Litman, enrollment services coordinator at the Lebanon Campus. “The Here to Help event can help people get back on track by learning about the wide range of support these agencies offer,  a review of job-hunting skills or a chance to speak with employers.”
Some of the agencies attending will offer support not necessarily specific to finding employment or higher education, including the state departments of Mental Health, Public Welfare, Unemployment Compensation and local agencies including Lebanon Family Health Services, City of Lebanon and the United Way.
Workshops structured to help in the job search process will be offered at the following times:
  • 10:30-11:30 a.m. - Understanding unemployment compensation
  • 11 a.m.-noon – Developing an effective resume
  • 11:30 a.m.-noon – Targeted Retraining for Dislocated Workers
  •  Noon-12:30 p.m. – Workplace expectations/mastering the soft skills
  • 12:30-1:30 p.m. – Successful interview techniques
  • 1-2 p.m. – Introduction to the Commonwealth Workforce Development System (SWDS) PA CareerLink
Targeted Retraining for Dislocated Workers is an initiative through HACC and CareerLink to give the region's jobless the education and skills for jobs currently needed by Central Pennsylvania's employers. Successful completion of the program does not guarantee employment but does give graduates specific training to qualify for high-demand jobs.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their resume and come prepared for job interviews with employers.
