Feb. 4, 2011     Mata Ortiz: Pottery in the Casas Grandes Tradition from the collection of photographer Carl Socolow of Camp Hill – in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, One HACC Drive. The tiny village of Mata Ortiz in Chihuahua, Mexico, is known worldwide for its exquisite pottery. The exhibit, sponsored by the HACC Alumni Association, features Artist in Residence, Jeraro Tena, Jan. 18-22. Tena is noted for his delicate, precise painting and superbly polished pieces. His lecture will be 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, in the gallery with a reception afterward. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The England-born artist now resides in upstate New York where she creates highly political works, often directed against capitalism and cruelty to animals.
