LEBANON – A documentary about the civil-war torn country of Liberia, “Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” will be shown at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the Lebanon Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

The film will be shown in the multipurpose room of the Lebanon Campus, 735 Cumberland St. The presentation is hosted by The Office of Student Life and Multicultural Programs.

“Pray the Devil Back to Hell” documents a group of brave women who demanded peace for Liberia, a nation torn by decades of civil war. The film highlights the women’s historic efforts and uses contemporary interviews, archival images and scenes of present day Liberia to share their stories.

The film was created in 2008 by Abigail E. Disney and Gini Reticker and has won several awards, including the Tribeca Film Festival’s Best Documentary Feature in April 2008, and the Jackson Hole Film Festival’s Cowboy Award Winner – Audience Choice Award in June 2008.  In a review of the documentary, the Hollywood Reporter wrote, “'Pray the Devil Back to Hell' is powerful enough to make even the most cynical believe in the ability of ordinary people to induce political change.”

The Office of Student Life and Multicultural Programs is showing this documentary as part of its multicultural initiative and hopes to bring awareness to the issues of Liberia as well as to showcase the empowerment of women in a patriarchal society.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Errol Wizda in the Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment at ejwizda@hacc.edu or 717-270-6364.
