HARRISBURG, Pa. – The HACC Foundation recently provided funding for key projects at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
 
The HACC Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises private contributions in support of HACC, approved $575,792.51­­­ for projects at the College. This funding is made possible through generous contributions from individual and organizational donors.
 
The HACC Foundation funded the following projects:

	Senator John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center (PSC) Debt Service	Funds will be used to subsidize the debt service for the PSC bond.	$167,950
	Mechatronics Program Expansion	Funds will be used to expand the Gettysburg Campus Mechatronics Program by adding a second mechatronics instructional lab and classroom. Manufacturing is a primary workforce sector in the campus’ service region, and research shows that this sector is experiencing an unmet need in finding qualified applicants for open positions.   The Gettysburg Campus began its first certificate cohort program in fall 2014 with funding from the HACC Foundation to support the construction of the lab and classroom space. Over the past two years, this cohort program has been full, with 15 students and additional students on the waiting list.	$77,500
	MATH 090 Year 1 Implementation	Funds will support embedded student tutors in many of the MATH 090 sections, a new developmental course, and provide faculty training.   MATH 090 is designed to deliver mathematics content to students in a supportive environment at levels individualized to their specific knowledge and understanding using Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces software.	$68,717.28
	Admissions Open House	Funds supported the annual Open House, the largest collegewide community event designed to bring awareness to future students and families by showcasing HACC’s programming through modern technology and professional appearance.	$49,902.28
	CDL Truck Purchase	Funds will be used to purchase a manual truck to use with Class A CDL training.	$47,000
	Replacement of 1984 Mack Fire Engine	Funds will be used to replace a 1984 Mack fire engine, the oldest piece of fire apparatus used by the Fire Training Unit at the Senator John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center. Replacing this fire engine will provide students the ability to train on state-of-the-art equipment and prepare them for a career in public safety.	$40,000
	LifePak 15 Monitors	Funds will be used to purchase two LifePak 15 monitors, the current standard for many pre-hospital and in-hospital emergency settings, to train students in the Emergency Medical Services Unit.	$38,566.68
	Extended Student Support Services	HACC is partnering with the Community Action Program of Lancaster to employ a part-time social worker for the Lancaster and Lebanon campuses. The services provided by a social worker will benefit students by connecting them to local resources, providing preventive services and helping with financial issues.	$21,000
	Women’s Soccer	A women’s soccer team will be added to the sports available to all HACC female students. Funding will support supplies, equipment, team travel, staff and services.	$19,088
	Intercollegiate Sports Teams Uniforms	Funds will be used to purchase new uniforms. The current uniforms, purchased in 2015, are old and outdated.	$11,700
	Institute for Simulation Educators	Funds will be used to send an adjunct nurse educator in the Nursing Program at the Gettysburg Campus to a National League of Nursing’s Institute for Simulation Education’s forum for faculty beginning work in simulation education. Exposure to current and future trends in simulation will provide this faculty member with innovative strategies in designing and delivering simulations that can be shared and implemented in the College’s nursing curricula.	$10,621.72
	Nursing Re-accreditation	Funds will be used to support a designated project manager to facilitate the re-accreditation year for HACC’s Nursing Program. There are many components to a successful re-accreditation, including writing an exhaustive self-study and planning and hosting a visit by the accreditation team.	$6,820
	BIOL Lab Equipment	Funds will be used to replace malfunctioning equipment and order additional equipment to support increased enrollment in Biology 101 and Biology 102.	$5,341.30
	Center for Innovation and Teaching Excellence (CITE) Fall Symposium Keynote and Workshops	Funds will be used to support the fall 2018 symposium keynote speaker and future workshops for CITE, a faculty-driven initiative that fosters peer-to-peer sharing by organizing and promoting professional development sessions.   Saundra McGuire, Ph.D., a leading expert in learning strategies, will give a 90-minute lecture at the symposium and follow up with two 60-minute workshops for faculty, with the objective of helping them explore ways to increase student learning.   CITE sessions focus on best practices for exchanging ideas and methods while building faculty collegiality and acceptance of change.	$4,175
	27th Annual Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses Convention	Funds will provide four senior-level nursing students at HACC’s Gettysburg Campus the opportunity to attend a national convention to support their professional development as soon-to-be practicing nurses.	$3,932.28
	Surface Pro Tablet for Classroom and Faculty Use	Funds will be used to replace a Surface Pro tablet that is no longer working properly.	$2,277.97
	MacBook Purchase for New Faculty	Funds will be used to purchase a computer for a new faculty member.	$1,200
