Look beyond Perfection in ‘The Giver’ at HACC
Theatre for Young People public performance set Nov. 17, 2019
HARRISBURG, Pa. – This fall, HACC’s Theatre for Young People will travel through the world of “The Giver” at the Rose Lehrman Art Center theatre on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus. The public performance is Nov. 17, 2019, at 2 p.m.
Based off of the Newbery Award-winning book by Lois Lowry, this play transports the audience to a seemingly-perfect world where there is no war, fear or pain, and every person is assigned a role in the community.
Chosen for special training, Jonas’ role is unique. He is to receive and hold the memories of the community and become the Giver. As he transitions into his role and learns the complex emotions from which all others are shielded, he will learn the truth about life and the hypocrisy of his utopian world.
“The Giver” is an American Alliance for Theatre and Education Distinguished Play Award winner and is suitable for children ages 10 and older. HACC theatre professor Dave Olmsted will direct this play, adapted by Eric Coble.

‘Town and Country’ Art Exhibit at HACC’s Gettysburg Campus
A reception with the artist will take place Nov. 14 from 10:30-11 a.m. in the art gallery hallway. Artist remarks will begin at 10:45 a.m., and light refreshments will be provided. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
Although Wargo’s professional career was in the healthcare field, he has fostered a lifelong passion for art. In the artist statement, Wargo writes, “My favorite paintings, whether landscape, wildlife, or still life are those that depict an uncommon view or perspective of those things which go unnoticed as we rush through life unaware of the beauty around us. The way light falls across a hard wood floor, the crimson violet of a cast shadow, or the rhythm of a country road trailing toward the horizon, tend to grab my attention and evoke that visceral response.”
Wargo studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and the Delaplaine Art Center in Frederick, Maryland. He has a bachelor’s degree from Temple University in Philadelphia.
