This story is part of our “HACC Heroes” series. We recognize the severity of the global coronavirus pandemic and its impact on our communities. During this challenging time, we want to thank and recognize some of the many HACC employees, students and others who are making a difference. The hero of this story is PNC Bank, a generous HACC supporter and friend.

HARRISBURG, Pa. – In March, PNC Bank was informed that the HACC event they were sponsoring was cancelled due to the global coronavirus pandemic. They generously and compassionately asked us to reallocate their contribution to assist HACC students struggling financially.

The $5,000 contribution was used to purchase gift cards for students. Students will use the gift cards for food, housing and other necessities.

“As many across the country are facing intense hardship, PNC’s charitable focus has been directed at meeting basic needs and providing essential relief in the communities we serve,” said Jim Hoehn, PNC regional president in Central Pennsylvania. “That’s why we are glad to repurpose our funding for HACC’s graduation ceremony toward combating food insecurity among students, an issue that has been heightened recently as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.”

Linnie Carter, Ph.D., APR, vice president of college advancement at HACC and executive director of the HACC Foundation, said, “PNC Bank has been a supporter and partner of HACC and the HACC Foundation for many years. We are grateful for their investment in our students. When a PNC colleague reached out to me with the offer to use the funds for our students, I was not surprised. That’s the PNC way.”

PNC Bank, we thank you for your support of HACC and our students! Your investment in and care for our community are commendable.
